Hemp
According to Watershed Sentinel magazine, “in Canada, we grow some of the best, longest hemp fibre, specifically in northern Alberta, with long daylight hours.”
Right now, Alberta is galvanizing its status as a leader in hemp production, thanks to those long summer growing days. Mackenzie County hemp grows extremely tall, yielding longer high-tensile fibres, renowned for their strength, durability, and resistance to mildew and harmful microbes.
Applications for these fibres are being made in rapid succession, from automotive and building construction to paper and textiles. According to the Sentinel, hemp fibre “can, in large part, replace cotton,” with significant benefit to the environment.
Mackenzie County’s hemp plants do not produce high levels of psychoactive compounds like CBD or THC like those strains grown in more southern climates. Our hemp is fibre hemp.
